Can Fresh Fruit Fight Hunger?

You’ve probably heard some new reports that are claiming fruits are not good for you—that fruits are the enemy and that low carb diets are the only way to really lose weight. Can we just pause for a second and take a look at that again? Are we really supposed to believe that fruits are the enemy and that they are somehow bad for you? Get real!

Fresh Fruit Satisfies Your Hunger

One secret to keeping your stomach satisfied lies in satiety. High fiber foods such as chia seeds, leafy greens, fruit and oatmeal will fill you up for longer and naturally suppress your appetite. When your body is satiated your hunger hormones remain in balance, allowing you to remain in control of your eating choices.  Fruit is jammed full of fiber. The indigestible fiber from fruit helps promote healthy bowel movements and adds bulk to foods without packing in a ton of calories. This bulk helps you to feel fuller for longer, thus reducing the amount of food that you eat.

Fruit Feeds Your Body

Have you ever noticed how you can eat a really large meal and then feel hungry again a short time later? Next time this happens think back to what type of foods you just ate. Chances are it was a highly processed or refined meal that provided loads of calories, yet very little real nutrition for your body. By eating large amounts of processed foods you can in fact be overweight and under-nourished at the same time.

White breads, white rice, frozen dinners, pizza and other processed or packaged foods simply aren’t giving your body the nutrients it needs. This leaves your body constantly wanting more… more food… more nutrition, and more life sustaining nutrients. Eating more fresh, unprocessed and natural foods will provide you with these much needed vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients and stop that constant desire to eat more and more food. Fruit is packed full of nutrients, containing some of the highest levels of vitamins, fiber, potassium, antioxidants and phytonutrients found in any food. There is simply no other food group that gives you a more nutritious bang for your buck than fruit, without all the fat, calories and sodium.

If you're worried about the myth that eating fruit will make you fat check out Freelee the banana girl. Freelee eats between 2000 to 5000 calories a day of mostly fruit and she radiates with health and vitality. I'm not suggesting you have to eat nothing but fruit in order to create your dream body, but I am showing you that large amounts of fruit in your diet certainly won't make you fat.

Don't like eating fruit?

Try mixing a little bland tasting fruit, such as frozen bananas with some rice milk and a couple of medjool dates for a delicious tasting smoothie. As your tastes buds adjust you can get a little more adventurous and add some berries, mango or other fresh or frozen fruits.
